NGP

I led the design of “Next generation pricing” from 0-1, from researching, identifying problems, to designing testing and handing off for implementation. "Next generation pricing" increases pricing transparency between charging point operators (CPOs) and e-mobility service providers (EMPs)
This feature is already being established as their tool for eRoaming pricing transactions by 20+ European established e-mobility companies and will help e-mobility finally move away from PDF.

Role

Product Designer

Duration

March - November 2022

Business model & users

The two businesses are Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and Electric Mobility Service Providers (EMsP). The Hubject platform serves as the HUB, empowering CPOs to make their charging infrastructure available to EMsP and their end customers, namely, electric vehicle (EV) drivers.

NGP

The customer's problem

Charge Point Operators and Electric Mobility Service Providers struggle with non-standardized tariff structures on the Hubject roaming platform, affecting transparency due to the diverse businesses involved.

Goal: Standard EV market pricing

I focus on creating a scalable standard framework for growth and future automation. The majority of CPOs can implement pricing with the following four components:

  • Energy fee (Euros/kWh)

  • Time fee (Euros/minute)

  • Parking fee (Euros/minute with grace periods)

  • Access fee (Euros/charging session)

Scheduler

To implement the four price components effectively, we introduced a vital element: a weekly scheduler. It enables precise time-based pricing, improving tariff control and flexibility.

Usability testing

Key to success was involving customers in concept testing. Ensured their ability to manage charging points and apply pricing using our weekly scheduler and four pricing components.

Increasing transparency of EV-charging tariffs

In our user flow, we consistently emphasize the significance of price components. In the attached image, we employ a hover action on tariff events to spotlight the specific price components that constitute each tariff.

Charging point groups

To make NGP work, we made another project called EVSE Networks. This tool helps CPOs organize their charging points into reusable containers for different service offers.

MVP release

Iterated on and released a streamlined concept for feedback. While adoption is slower than anticipated, the tool has garnered positive reception from EMPs and CPOs.
